innsbruck media studies – Interdisciplinary media research at the University of Innsbruck

The interdisciplinary research area Innsbruck Media Studies aims at understanding, explaining, and shaping structures of the media and their modification, processes of communication and mediation in the media, effects on voting patters and party strategies as well as the development of innovative models and frameworks within diversified ICT-sectors.
It is run by the interfacultary project team Medienforum Innsbruck. It represents a platform for inter- and transdisciplinary media research at the University of Innsbruck.
There is a special focus on the connection of technological-material and symbolic-sign oriented approaches to the media. This includes theoretically motivated questions in the tension-filled areas of media, culture, society, and technology as well as the practical discussion of, in particular, the digital media. Moreover, processes of the intern and extern connection of media research and the combination of competences in regard to the participation in international trends under the auspices of the “mediatic turn” are of great importance.
